Exercise?

Yes, exercise, that dreaded work that so many people have come to fear. I am not going to go on and on in detail about exercise here; however, you must understand that any serious effort to lose weight must include exercise at least to some extent. The amounts and types of exercise that you choose to do is entirely up to you. After all this site is about a diet not about a workout. With that said I do try to exercise on a daily basis. If you can do this then you will be well on your way to achieving your goals. You may start by just walking, if you can simply add 15-20 minutes of walking each day then that is a start. During induction I tend to feel that exercise is NOT a major concern. I did very little exercise during induction and that is where I lost most of my weight. So, if you can just do some walking or some light exercise indoors then you are doing absolutely fantastic! As I progressed with the diet I added more exercise. I personally like lifting weights and I have a nice set at my home so I tended to lift each night after work. I realize that with our jobs, families and everything else that time is difficult to find but you really should exercise regularly. This is why I say do not try to overdo your exercise, just do a little bit each day. for awhile I would pick one single body part and work that one body part out for the day and then the next day I would move to another body part. (i.e. I might do biceps one night and nothing else then chest the next night, back the next, quads on another etc) by doing this I kept my workouts small and manageable and by having your workouts small and manageable then it is hard to find an excuse not to do them! Later I was back into a normal lifting routine. However; like I said, I personally enjoy lifting but you might want to ride a stationary bike or run on a treadmill instead, what you choose to do is entirely up to you. In fact you do not even need to own any equipment! Try doing 100 sit-ups a day or 100 pushups or 100 deep knee bends, these are all fantastic exercises! And don't worry I don't expect you to do all 100 at one time but try to reach a total throughout the day of 100 repetitions and try for as few sets as possible. The only thing that I ask is that you chose to do something each and every day!

Here are some very easy things to do each day to increase your amount of physical activity:

  1. Take the stairs whenever possible, give a pass to that elevator and escalator and walk up and down when possible.
  2. Don't look for the one parking spot closest to the door, in fact look for the one farthest away and use those legs of yours! Remember that every step counts and they all add up in the end!
