2: Redux

Welcome to Phase 2 or Cheeseburger Redux!

Redux? What is it?

Redux is a huge part of the Cheeseburger diet and you could remain in Redux indefinitely if you so choose. In Redux we begin by simply adding back in the normal cheeseburger toppings and by normal I am referring to lettuce, tomato, onion and dill pickles.  Later we will add an actual side salad with various other salad type items available to us as well as more cheeses. It is entirely possible and very likely that you will remain in Ketosis throughout much of Redux.

OK so on with Redux!

During Redux Part our diet slightly evolves to include the normal list of toppings/salad items that one would find at any major burger restaurant. These include your basic items like lettuce, onion, tomato and dill pickle. Other acceptable toppings/salad items include (mushrooms, mild and/or hot peppers, olives and avocado) You can also add ketchup back into your list of condiments just don't over do it; in fact, if you wish to remain in ketosis then I would suggest using a low-carb ketchup. Heinz makes one. When I first move into this stage I am usually eating the same exact meals that I would have been eating during the previous stage, Induction, I simply top my cheeseburgers with any of the afore-mentioned toppings. I will also eventually begin adding a side salad to my normal meals. With the salads you will want to stick to the lower carb salad dressing options. So at this stage you are simply eating beef, cheese and salad. Now that actually sounds pretty healthy does it not? And could things be any less complex than this?

Just remember that if you wish to remain in Ketosis, that once you reach a certain level of carb intake that the process will stop!!! I typically stay in this stage for quite some time and I do remain in Ketosis. In order to achieve that, my typical meal consists of two or more beef patties topped with cheese, lettuce, onion, pickle, tomato and condiments with a dill pickle on the side. As I get closer to my target weight then I will add a side salad to my meals topped with one of the lower carb dressings like blue cheese or some of the ranch dressings. If I find myself hungry during this stage then I will usually snack on a wedge or a block of cheese, just make sure that it is low in carbs and by this I mean that it has zero or at most less than 1 gram per serving. I am rather fond of blue cheese and as such it is not uncommon for me to sit down and have a wedge of blue cheese for a snack!

Quick summary for the minimalist!
  • Eat cheeseburgers complete with toppings but without the buns!
  • Have a few dill pickle spears on the side.
  • Have a side salad if you're still hungry but watch the dressing!
  • Need a snack? Have some cheese!
Fast Food tips!
The same rule goes here if you forget to pack your lunch or just plain run out of burgers at home then it is perfectly acceptable during this phase of the diet to go to your favorite burger joint and order a double or even triple cheesburger including the toppings and without the bun. You can even order a side salad if available.
